What's it like to live and work at Sundance Therapy for a month?

Updated: Jan 4, 2022

Sundance Therapy has a very strong sense of community and sharing about it, and for the month of June I had the privilege of being a part of that community. I had previously never done an internship even remotely similar to this, so I didn’t know what to expect going into it. What I found was a completely welcoming, caring, and supportive group of people who were enthusiastic about sharing information in their area of expertise. I also found so many different fuzzy, feathery, majestic, and adorable critters! At any time I felt that I could walk up to anyone on the ranch and ask them to teach me about what they were doing and why. I gained experience and knowledge on regenerative agriculture techniques such as the use of chicken tractors and selective grazing, I learned about irrigation techniques for gardening, and I became proficient at taking care of all of the animals on the ranch. Jeff and Desi both gave me horsemanship lessons and I got to transfer those skills to driving cattle via horseback and going trail riding—what a blast! The generosity of the hosts extended to beyond the farm as well, as they made it possible for me to explore the beautiful Colorado lands nearby. I learned a massive amount just by talking to Jeff about subjects such as budget planning, OT philosophy, and patient care, often while we were taking care of the animals or over a delicious meal.
